The historic chapel was no longer capable of accommodating the programs of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The bell from that building which has rung in times of need was relocated on the grounds of the new building. A story is told of a young resident of Wallsberg being lost in the nearby hills finding his way back by following the ringing of the bell. The brick work of the standard plan that year was modified to honor the pioneer heritage found in the masonry work in many of the smaller towns of Utah.
